The road to the trailhead is clear. The trail is clear for the first two miles, and then snow and ice begin to cover the trail and gradually increase to a depth of about two inches at Hannegan Pass.
There is a large blowdown directly over the trail at about four miles. You can pass fairly easy on the downhill side. Our group of three hikers met a solo hiker coming out after an overnight stay at the Pass and we met five hikers coming in on our way out. I found a shell jacket on the trail. If you lost it, describe it in the "comments" section and I will make arrangements to return your jacket to you. The weather was sunny and crisp at 8:00 AM, but Ruth Mountain started accumulating clouds by 10:00 AM and its view was obscured for the remainder of the hike. Many of the water crossings are dry. There are a couple of streams with icy crossings, but the trail isn't difficult to hike. There are some beautiful ice formations above the creeks that are flowing. Our turnaround time arrived before we made it to Hannegan Peak. The snow and ice on the trail take their toll on you time, so take them into consideration if you plan to hike to the Peak. Day hike

Cloudy and rainy day, friend and I decided to go on a hike in the N. Cascades and decided upon Hannegan. Road to trailhead is still fine, snow-level that day was at about 7500ft so the trail is still very accessible and snow-free. Went about 2-2.5 miles in and decided to turn back, still great views in the rain. Only issues include one blowdown near the trailhead, lots of water and flooding on the trails.
Overall a successful and still enjoyable hike despite the stormy weather. We were the only people when we arrived and the only people when we left. Day hike

A little foggy and we ended up coming the whole way down in pouring rain but it was beautiful at the top. There were so many beautiful fall colors and foliage. Spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and very few other people.
