Ensure Long-term Funding for State Parks

The legislature has proposed a solution for State Parks and now is the time to rally behind it. HB 2339 would add $5 to car tab renewals, while giving Washington residents the option of choosing not to pay in at the time of registration. The bill goes before the House Ways and Means Committee Thursday morning (April 16) and, if approved, will then head to the House floor for a vote. This legislation has 45 House co-sponsors, but it needs to pass with a two-third majority—or 66 votes. That would ensure that this measure would not have to go to a public vote. The funds could then start to flow more quickly, keeping Parks open. The State Senate is expected to move the legislation with the necessary majority.

WTA strongly supports this legislation. We’ve made the case over and over that State Parks need a dedicated source of funding that will keep them solvent and operating during difficult budget times.
