Carbon River Road being transformed

Perhaps you read that officials at Mount Rainier National Park have decided not to repair the Carbon River Road that leads to a once-popular auto campground at Ipsut Creek. Instead, the road will be converted to a bike and pedestrian trail at an estimated cost of $3.2 million. Repairing the road, portions of which were wiped out by a flood in 2006, would have cost about $11.2 million.
