St. Cloud #4410

This short loop meanders through an old apple orchard and open meadow with views across the river to Multnomah Falls and the Oneonta Bluffs. Several picnic tables and fire rings invite visitors to linger for lunch and short path draws the curious to the river’s edge. (Boaters should note that this site is a listed launch site on the Lower Columbia River Water Trail.)

The footpath, designed to be accessible to all users, features a compacted gravel footpath that is mostly level. There is also an outhouse that is accessible to wheelchair users. Northwest Forest Pass required.

The St. Cloud day use area is approx. 5 miles downstream from Beacon Rock State Park and about 1 mile downstream from the Franz Lake National Wildlife Refuge overlook. The refuge protects a system of river streams and wetlands adjacent to the Columbia that is important habitat for waterfowl, migratory birds and raptors including bald eagles.
Driving Directions:

From Vancouver, drive east on Hwy 14. The entrance to the day use area is 0.1 mile west of milepost 30 near the community of Skamania. The site lies inconspicuously across the railroad tracks.
