Be Aware Of
  • Road to trailhead inaccessible
Tried to hike to Greider Lakes today, but we were stopped by a road closed sign. The Sultan Basin Road is closed before Spada Lake. This is at least 8 miles from the trailhead.

Sultan Basin

Last winter was hard on the Sultan basin. The road may not be repaired until late July or early August....hopefully. In the past road maintenance of the South Shore road was shared between the DNR and PUD. The DNR had plans of decommissioning the road all the way to Olney pass as of 2005. That was put on the back burner only because of the PUD's reliciencing of Culumbac dam. The DNR already decommisioned the road from Boulder lake trail head to the Greider lake trail head. So now there is an extra mile of 23 tank traps to walk through to get to the Boulder trail head. There are future plans to decommision approx another 2 miles of road before the Greider TH...

RIP Boulder and Greider lakes trails.
