Shot of frozen Lake 22
I started up the trail at about 8:45 in the morning and things were still pretty cold in the forest. There were several places on the trail that had thick ice making the hike a little sketchy. I should have brought poles along or something to add some extra grip to my boots. Although I managed to get by only falling once or twice I wouldn't recommend taking any small children - at least until things warm up a bit. There was some snow on the trail just before you got to the lake and all the way around the lake. I'm sure there is more since the storm on Sunday came through.

The lake itself was beautiful - it was frozen pretty solid. Three hikers behind me had brought up skates and were skating across pretty much the entire lake. I'm not sure how they knew, or if they knew, that the ice was thick enough for them to skate on. In short I don't recommend skating on the lake unless you really know what you're doing.

All in all it was a beautiful day for a hike and the ice formations both along the trail and in the mountains behind the lake were amazing. if you don't mind hiking on the ice - see my pictures - it was great.
