Hobbes (dog) and I parked at the May Valley Rd trailhead at noon and was only the second car there. Ahh the perks of having Mondays off. Started up the trail, they were in good shape and the sun actually peeked out. Not for long, as the ski grew extremely dark and it began to hail for about 10 min with some actual accumulation! We followed the Bullitt CK trail until the junction of the west peak trail, and then took the boot path to the summit cell towers.Summit tie 2:00 PM The connector trail has alot of muddy spots and as does parts of the bullitt trail. Took Phil's Creek down and noticed a few Salmonberry flowering in the April weather. Equestrian trail is closed, so I ended up taking the road down from this junction.

Day use parking at the trailhead off SE May Valley Rd is $5.00 - be prepared. Other trip reports have alluded to the vagaries of trail names and the numerous unlabelled paths that are not included on the Green Trails map or have been added since its 1999 publication. We can vouch for that. This is a great place to practice navigational skills since the signposts are non-existent or unreliable. We made a counterclockwise loop from the Equestrian Trail (S4) to Phil's Creek to Central Peak - a 1500 ft elevation gain. Not a horse or a soul. Where is everybody? It's true that there is only a slice of a view from the unaesthetic peak, but everything else is in place - ravines and draws, copses and bowers, Oregon Grape and beards of moss. On the return south from Bullitt Fireplace we had to cross through the tape that had closed a trail for renovation, but what choice did we have? WTA appears to be seriously shoring things up and parts of the trails are looking quite civilized. It would be nice if they were allowed someday to announce their names.

The Valley Connector and West Peak Trail junction with the Bullitt Fireplace Trail is as shown on the Green Trail map (as opposed to what was reported earlier). They are just buried under a mass of logs.

At 1.0 miles, the May Valley Trail leaves the road to the left at a hairpin curve. There is a sign that indicates the trail ends in 0.1 miles. This pertains to the side trail to the east that ends at a private property line. The May Valley Trail heads north along Bullitt Creek. There is some construction on the May Valley Trail. There are some muddy spots and brushy areas. No logs across the trail. The tread is narrow and there are brushy spots on the Perimeter Loop Trail. There are brushy spots along the West Peak Trail and there are many logs across the trail. There is a small transmitting station on West Peak. The West Peak Trail is buried under many logs where it meets the Bullitt Fireplace Trail. The Bullitt Fireplace and Central Peak Trails are clear except for one overhanging three on The Bullitt Fireplace Trail. The Valley Connector Trail has many logs across it. Skies were overcast and temperatures were moderate.
