- Snow on trail
The trail now starts at FS 73 on the east side of the bridge over Huckleberry Creek, 3000 feet. This section joins the original trail just before the foot log over Lost Creek. After 1.5 the trail enters MRNP. The Patrol cabin is still standing, but isn’t looking very good. The rains stayed away for most of the day. The only sights on the trail today were big trees and lots of fungi.
Just before the crossing of Huckleberry Creek, 5200 feet, I started to hit snow. The footbridge over the creek is broken, creating a steep section on the far side. I walked out to the steep section, but with snow on bridge, I decide not to tempt fate. Down stream about 50 feet, I found a place to rock hop across the creek.
As I approached Forest Lake, 5653 feet, it started to rain. I had a quick standing lunch and headed back. As I dropped elevation, the rain stopped allowing me to shed my rain gear.
Trip Stats: ~16 miles with 2900 feet elevation gain
