We hiked 4 1/2 miles to the junction to Goat Lake Basin. We turned left and hiked to the ridge above Goat Lake and this is where we had lunch. This was 6500 ft. The view to Goat Lake Basin was very pretty. We usually do the loop to Norse Peak ,but because of the short days, we returned the way we came not even going to the peak since there would be no views. It was 28 degrees at the TH when we started, but we soon began shedding layers as the sun was shining most of the AM. Mt Rainier remained behind clouds, however! About noon the clouds hid the sun and we began having snow. There was about 1/2 " of snow on the road at the TH. Snow gradually increased to 4" with some 6" drifts. Being the first on the trail after the snow made for an especially pretty scene! This was a very pleasant hike and a good workout! There were no other hikers on the trail today.
