Ethan Schrank, Brian Kelley, & I decided to escape the inversion that has been blanketing eastern Washington for the last week or so with a snowshoe along the Maintenance Shed Rd (aka Yellowjacket or White Rd) just west of White Pass. We had to drive all the way to Rimrock Lake before breaking out of the low clouds into clear, sunny skies. We started walking about 10:00 and walked out to the end of the road & a little beyond. The views were fantastic when we walked through a clearing, first of Coyote Ridge, then back up the valley of the Clear Fork to the Goat Rocks, & finally of Mt Rainier. The snow was pretty well consolidated & a little crusty, so the walking was easy. It was breezy, but not too cold & we walked most of the time in our shirtsleeves. We found a lunch spot that was protected from the wind, dug ourselves a platform, and soaked up the sun and the views for an hour & a half or so before we reluctantly headed back.
