Snow on trail
Snow in the river
We had some set backs getting to the pennisula and opted for this due to time. We didn't expect much, but were wonderfully suprised! Camp Ground is closed so park at the gate & walk to the end of the loop. View of thin falls from loop to the right while the trail to the left heads down into the canyon. 500 ft down at start, the rest is fairly flat. Trail runs along Big Quilcene river. Great place for lunch near river.
Wonderful short hike for kids 1.2m round trip. Trail in Great Condition. Snow still on trees. Strange ice formations coming out of downed branches. A little snow on trail still, but not bad. Had a great time.
Strange Ice,any one know what this is?
A nice view for lunch

Strange Ice

Posted by Bob and Barb at Jan 29, 2009 11:15 AM
We believe this is rhyme ice. We saw some beautiful examples of this Sunday when we hiked the Upper Lake Mills Trail from the Whiskey Bend road. Rime may be the correct spelling. I saw it spelled both ways when I googled it!
