The TH is 3.5 miles after turning onto FR2875 from FR2870. The road now ends here. The forest service has brought in hugh boulders which block the road at this point. The former CG is also blocked by boulders as are 2 other areas near the TH which used to attract target shooters, 4 wheelers, etc. This was done to hopefully reduce vandalism. Parking at the TH seems safer now. The trail drops 1100 feet in 2.1 miles to Duncan Flat and soon crosses the Gray Wolf River. We continued to the Lower Gray Wolf Trail and went downstream about .75 more miles where we had lunch. There were 2 blowdowns, one at about 2 miles in and another shortly thereafter--the latter was a small tree, the first much larger, but it could be gone under or over if you have long legs. There were a few icey areas on the Gray Wolf Trail. The Slab Camp Trail had1-2" of snow at the beginning and then was frozen--soon to be muddy when the weather warms! The last 1/2 mile of FR2875 requires a high clearance vehicle because of compact snow and ice. This is a very beautiful winter hike!
