This was our first real strenuous hike of the season. Very hot weather and a dusty trail. Nice and flat for the first 4.5 miles. Then a brutal 1.5 miles to the lake with an elevation gain of over 2000'. The trail up bordered on a light scramble at some points. It still managed to be busy, with mostly day hikers coming down (we started late at about 1:00p). Reached the lake about 5:45p. Found a great spot in a natural bowl above the lake the perfect size for camp. Great views of the lake and surrounding peaks. There were three other groups, including some noisy teens, but they quieted down after dark. Saw lots of trout in the lake, talked to some campers that caught about five 10" ones. Overall great weather the next day, wanted to hike to Robin, but slept in too late. Started the hike down about 1:30p made it back to the car at 5:15p. Stopped along the way to take more pictures of Hyas Lake, some great wildflowers, and a waterfall or two. A great choice for overnight, next time multiple nights, with a climb up to Robin Lake as well.
