Ledge 1
First day of Fall and awesome day for a hike. Despite the temps being about 90 degrees it definitely didnt feel like that on the trail. The trail is wide and well maintained. About 2 miles up to the first ledge and another 5 min more towards East Peak for Ledge 2 and another 5 min more to Ledge 3. Ledge 3 is by far the best view although the first ledge is quite a bit bigger and great for sitting and admiring the spectacular view and/or eating a lunch etc. The other 2 ledges are smaller but still awesome views. No bugs on the trail. Would recommend those not in hiking shape to pace themselves but it is doable. It does get steeper as you get near the first ledge but like I said, manageable. Seemed like one lone chipmunk at Ledge 1 although he was so fast not sure if it was the same one or one of several. Lots of dogs unleashed of course but most seemed nice and well behaved. I would suggest leashing them on the ledges as it is very windy and there can be big gusts that come out of no where. Lots of people heading up around 4:30pm when we were coming down, so a constant trickle of hikers. If you go to the higher ledges you will most likely be the only one there otherwise, pretty busy on the other sections of trail. We hiked on a Tuesday in beautiful weather and it wasnt too crowded but I can imagine on a weekend what that travel could be like. Hike early to avoid the crowds if you dont like lots of people.
View looking down to Ledge 1 & 2 from Ledge 3. Rattlesnake Lake below
View of Cedar River Reservoir to the east from Ledge 3
Very friendly chipmunk on Ledge 1
