Enough of the holiday-no trail work-too much good food. It was time to walk-get a little exercise. Our BOSS said Sun. would be doalbe. Lots of folks out for the holiday but we will go with those that can meet at Denny's in Issaquah. Mike,Greg,Craig,Gordon and Dick. Lordee,Lordee,Lordee, a surprise visit for breakfast only and it was such a good time that the sun was up high when we left for Rattlesnake. Clear skies and very little frost on the ground-does it get any better than this in Dec.?
A few cars at the trailhead but not crowded. Standing around the parking lot we suddenly realize that we do not need to sign in so we amble to the trailhead. Today we will get a little of the history of the trail. After all,we are WTA and we talk alot. In the first half mile there are only a few people passing us-our conversations interrupted only briefly but as we get higher and the air gets thinner it seems that people are comming in waves. Is there a bus stop nearby that we don't know about? Now some of those people and dogs are on the way down. Did we miss something-sure the breeze is picking up but it is not unbearable-there is not a white out nor do we need the blue tarp. We briefly stop at the first overlook and then continue for to find a lunch spot.
Having found a spot in the sun we sit for awhile. WOW! Craig has homemade cheese and sausage from Wis.. Greg has oranges and cookies. Good L d are wwe going to roll down this mountain. If Mike pulls out the hot cider I am pulling out the sleeping bag for a nap.It seems that each time I look up behind us one group of people is replace by another-gotta find that bus stop! The day is warmer than some of those we have experienced recently so we leave before we get cold. No need to get up and back to work to warm up. The hike down is faster-less history to go over-it is down hill- and we are heading into thicker air.The only reason we are slowed on the way down is the people passing us in both direction now. I forgot to mention that on the way up there was a tree on the trail, however, Greg took to moving it. While he did not have on his hard hat,he had boots and gloves and Craig kept a close eye on him to be sure he was safe. Now,we walked right past this spot with barely a thought to that which blocked our path on the way up.
The parking lot was full and the cars were linning up on the road by the time we got back. As usual we stood around to talk but also had more of Greg's cookies. Great day you guys!! See you on the trail. This trail is in great shape and a pleasure to walk upon..
