With a window of sunshine and calm we headed up Dog Mountain doing a clockwise loop by first going up the Augsperger Trail which is a lot more gradual climb. The Augsperger route also offers some nice views to the west that you don't get because of the trees lower down on the Dog Mountain Trail.
At the junction we turned right to head over to the Dog Mountain summit. Although the mountain is currently bare of flowers, it is still a great view from the top. And it will be cool to see how its changed when I come back for the wildflower show later this spring.
The trail was dry and free of blown down trees and debris. I can tell that once the leaves come out some sections will be really brushy. But now the trail is easy to see and follow and there are relatively few people hiking up there this time of year.
