Madrona tree
Our group of 11 friends found plenty of hikers, trail runners, dogs -- even a military group out for a training hike -- on this drizzly Saturday. All trails are in good shape, with just a few muddy and eroded spots. It was too dreary for photography, so we caught up with each other's goings-on and enjoyed a quick lunch by a small creek and waterfall.

Shy Bear

You're lucky you skipped Shy Bear - it's hammered from the excesive re-build and as muddy as I've seen any trail in the park!

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
