Be Aware Of
Snow on trail
Lake Serene and Mt. Index
With fresh snow in the mountains, we're temporarily forced to turn to hikes in the lowlands, and Lake Serene is always a good "go-to" choice. The trailhead, at only 600', is open, but snow appears on the trail at about 1800' and gets deeper near the lake. Porting up snowshoes would be wasted effort, but traction devices are useful.

Once at the lake, it's fun to sit back with your fav snacks and enjoy the show as tons of debris sloughs off the peak of Mt. Index, providing an almost continuous show.

As usual, it's windy up there, but it was very warm today - temps in the high 50's or maybe even 60+.
The lake is still frozen
The amazing disappearing creek
A sure sign of spring
