Why You Should Go Now
Wildflowers blooming
Hiked into the Upper Enchantments by way of Lake Colchuck and Aasgard Pass. Aasgard is in "good" shape - almost all of the snow is gone, just a couple of short snow fields to get across. This was my first time up Aasgard, and I was surprised by how much of it is on glacial silt and scree - the footing was very loose. It's spring on the upper reaches of the pass, so wildflowers are in bloom. Bugs weren't bad, all things told - plenty of mosquitoes, but not particularly aggressive (full on a meal of mountain goat maybe?). Upper Enchantments are in good shape, mostly snow-free along the trail.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
