Hiked with a dog
The dogs and I headed out to Rachel Lake off of I-90, an area we usually avoid due to its reputation for being overcrowded on the trails. Since the day started off overcast and the weather predictions were not that great, a lake hike sounded like a good idea. We reached the trailhead around 10:00 and it was already full of cars, which was expected since this trail is supposed to have pretty heavy use. So we packed up and headed up the trail and honestly enjoyed every minute of it. On the way up we only ran into a couple of groups, mostly campers from the night before heading back down and the first part of the trail was a lovely hike right along box canyon creek. The latter part of the hike was definitely a climb up to the lake, not a lot of switchbacks, but not too bad as well. And then we hit the lake and it was beautiful, I thought about heading up the side trail up to Rampart Ridge, but the call of snacks for me and dog snacks for the dogs was too great and we headed around to the south side of the lake to find a nice spot to relax. You can definitely notice that there is starting to be a chill in the air as fall is upon us, but the colors are starting to come out and it was truly beautiful. On the way down we did hit a lot of people on their way up, but to be honest it is kind of fun to chit chat a little with other fellow hikesr in passing. So another great day in the mountains and I will no longer write off hikes off of I-90, because I am realizing now I have been truly limiting our mountain experiences. A great day!
