It looked to be a nice day so I opted for Mt Si which I've not done in eons.

First mud - the bridge immediately after the trailhead.

Other muddy spots but really not all that bad.

Sun filtering through trees made it quite pleasant, ignoring the grade of the trail.

Snow both slushy and firm in places starts in earnest at around the 3.5 mile mark. Up works well since a lot of it was either slushy or dirty enough that traction was not much of an issue. Staircases are snow free.

I will admit to putting on some traction devices for the downhill but I have reasons not to fall.

A really good day and not altogether wiped out - yet.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
