Blowdowns
Snow on trail
Trail work has begun and the beginning of the hike is looking great. The bridge is still officially out, but a very nice foot log is available. A combination of blowdowns and snow on the trail obscure parts of the trail between the footlog and Trout Lake, but with a little hunting we managed just fine.

The trail is in good shape after the lake almost all the way to the first big waterfall. While we had to cross some snowpatches, we didn't lose the trail until a massive snowfield that we couldn't find the exit of the track from. We had a good look at the waterfall and headed back. I would estimate that was 2.5 - 3 miles in.

Will be returning later in the summer when the snow melts a bit more I think.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
