I was thinking of my report as I was coming down from the lake with mud-soaked dogs, gaitors, and boots and thought this is not the time to come up here with pristine, white tennis shoes. Not five minutes later, up comes a family in pristine, white tennis shoes.

Although there was no need for traction devices, the trail is full of mud from the late thaw and a bit of slippery snow toward the top. The dogs and I did not venture around the lake as the face still looks a bit dangerous. However, there were great spots for dogs to splash and also roll in the snow.

This is such a nice, quick hike anytime of year and especially during the week to avoid crowds in pristine, white tennis shoes...

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
