Panther Creek Falls The contrast in the lighting did not allow for good photos, but it didn't stop us from taking too many pictures! :)!
I "tweaked" my right knee while hiking the Lewis River Trail 2 weeks ago so our hikes this past week-end were short with not much elevation gain. Although short they took us to 3 beautiful waterfalls and to rare plants which we feel blessed to have seen. A couple we met on the Falls Creek Trail on Friday told us about Panther Creek Falls which we did today. To reach the TH drive the Wind River Road 5.8 miles north of Carson to Old State Road and turn right. Turn left onto Panther Creek Road which becomes Road 65. In about 7.4 miles you come to a large gravel pit where parking is available. Cross the HWY and go left about 100 ft to an unmarked trail which begins as a narrow trail but soon widens to take you to a fairly new viewing platform about 500 ft from the TH. What an awesome and unique falls! It is actually 2 waterfalls dropping side by side from Panther Creek and a series of gushing springs on the left side. Panther Creek's falls is a 2 tiered horsetail falls, but the 30 ft second tier can only be seen if you scramble off trail down a very steep and dangerous looking tread to the base of the falls. We did see a young couple do this scramble and I'm sure the view from below is awesome! We highly recommend visiting this falls if you are in the area! Pictures can not describe its beauty!
