Pulled into one of the parking spots at the north end of the park sometime after 3pm.

Followed the bluff trail past a machine gun nest to the "gun battery". The bluff trail was in perfect condition. Having a flashlight was useful for exploring the gun battery bunker. Had a look at the fire control bunker in front, and headed back.

Before leaving we did a quick loop to Lake Pondilla, and went down to the beach just below the parking area.

Quite a few people in the area, but no crowds.

Ft. Ebey is another nice spot along the beautiful Whidbey Is. coastline. The "machine gun nest" was actually an observation/spotting bunker for the gun battery above on the bluff top.

The pictured concrete bunker is about a mile north (along the bluff trail) of the gun battery. Might be another observation bunker, couldn't find any information about it.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
