Snow on trail
It was a nice day to venture to this new hike. My Dad and I got going at 2pm from the trailhead and meandered up to the top. Snow was on the trail about 1.5 miles up the trail, but it was not prohibitive. We encountered 2 other couples, and only one person had yak Trax.

Found some good tracks including blacktail deer, snowshoe hare, lots of rodents, and a marten. Also found a geo-cache near the top.

Bummer of the hike: My Dad lost his iPhone. Fortunately he was going to replace it soon, but it still has some information that he'd like to recover.****If you happen to find an iPhone on the trail (likely at the summit) please email me at seerofworth (at) gmail (dot) com****

This is a solid hike; it reminded me of Bandera but with a more steady, mellow grade to it. The snows will likely be consuming the trails, so get up it soon!

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
