Did every conceivable trail in the Wallace Falls/Wallace Lake loop. Started with the DNR road to the Greg Ball Trail cutoff and then back to the Woody Trail to the Upper Falls then continued past the upper trails on the Blue Trail leading to the Wallace Lake Trail/Park Boundary road. Walked a little around one side of the lake then headed back on the DNR road to connect back with the Greg Ball trail and ultimately back to the Woody trail and back to the parking lot. Approx 12mi round trip.
The trail that leads to Wallace Lake from the upper falls is a level grade road and easy walking all the way to the lake. Just follow the blue markers thru the woods from the upper falls and it will get you to the easy walking road to the lake.
Leaving the lake, take the DNR road till you reach the Greg Ball trail and that will take you all the way back down to the Woody trail otherwise you can take the upper DNR down to the lower DNR and it will end up back at the trailhead.
Beautiful day for a hike and the trails were outstanding. If you want to get out of the crowds I would advise taking the DNR road to the Greg Ball trail and then cutting back down to the Woody trail to the falls. Better yet, if you really want to get away from the crowds continue to Wallace lake. Very peaceful up there and a little big cooler so bring an extra jacket. Its a 0.5 mile walk around the west side of the lake to the head of the lake, again its a wide railroad grade type path.
The only little bit of snow we saw was on the trail to Wallace Lake from the upper falls. So odd seeing little bits of snow in an otherwise sunny dry area.
I must say all the people with dogs today all had them on leashes. I am so proud of all the responsible dog owners. Thank you.
Also, thank you to the WTA trail crew that have done work on the trails recently.
