Got to the parking lot at about noon and headed up the road about 0.6 miles to the true trailhead. The trail was wide and easy to follow but at times was a creek bed with a good amount of water running down it. Otherwise the trail was fine other than a few snow patches at the end that caused no problem. Remnants of the ice storm is very evident with large sticks all over the trail. Wouldn't have wanted to be here during that storm.

The hike is beautiful with a few fast moving creeks along side the trail and one to cross on a small plank-bridge. The view from the balcony was terrific with all of the surrounding peaks snowcovered. The weather was warm and the sun shining so we spent a while on the balcony. I highly recommend this hike on a clear, warm day.

The trail is easy to follow but is marked with rusty parts anyways. The turnoff trail to the balcony is marked by a large, hard to miss, rusty can and is marked with rusty old parts all the way to the balcony. The can is on a left turn next to some rock cairns and currently in one of the small snowpatches.

Great hike on a sunny April day. Will definitely try to go back and get all the way to the top of the peak.

Cool creek in a gorge between two logs where a full bridge used to be? Photo by scout677

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
