This is perhaps the most beautiful alpine lake I have ever encountered and I've been to many. Very accessible this early in the year, while those along I-90 are still well snowed in. Great views in an open portion that was after the majority of the altitude gain. The lake is frozen over w/ a small portion open, the shores snow covered. Many great waterfalls. One warning. The last half mile or so is snow covered with many water crossings and water on the trail. Although I did see more than a few people hiking in sneakers, waterproof boots and gaters along w/ treking poles are highly recommended. I did not use any traction devices since it was fairly level where there was snow. The lake basin is all snowed in so bring something to sit on but the bridge is now clear for the most part. We made a small packed down area and sat on jackets and it was wonderful. My first time here, and it is now very high on my list.
