biked from campsite (south lake Wenatchee campground) to trailhead, about 1.3 miles.
After visiting Leavenworth and eating Cold Stone ice cream (and feeling guilty) I decided to do a nearby hike to Nason Ridge just located about a mile from my campsite at the south side of Lake Wenatchee. At the trailhead there is no description of how long the hike is to reach the Ridge and I was not familiar with the trail, but decided to go for about an hours hike and see where it got me. The first 5 minutes of the trail is muddy and full of melting snow, glad I had gore-tex shoes! It then clears up and the trail is nice and even for the next 20 minutes with very little elevation. It's a good idea to hike with somebody here because for some reason this particular forest was giving me the creeps - and yes, I hiked alone. The trail then starts to climb and at about 2.5 miles you reach an old logging road - make a right and start climbing for the next 30 minutes. Along the way you'll be able to see beautiful lake Wenatchee, but keep your eye on the trail as well because you'll have to navigate fallen trees, snow, and mud - lots of it! At around 5 miles the snow on the trail was really deep and I decided to turn around, lucky I did because I found out later I still had about 3-4 miles to go! I hope to do this hike when i return in the summer, but I do hope that they have a proper map and detail how long the trail is for people who decide to hike it - not having one can be dangerous!
snow still on trail - oh and plenty of mud!
views get better as you slowly climb!
I love trees!
