This turned out to be a longer hike in the Chuckanuts than one would think there is room for. We did a one way hike starting from the south at the Fragrance Lake Trail (across from the Clayton Beach TH), took the Interurban to the trail to Fragrance Lake and the caught the Double Diamond to Cyrus Gate and then took the Ridge Trail (Upper, Middle and Lower) and on to Old Samish Road where our shuttle car was parked.

The series of Ridge Trails had a lot of up and down, so just following a ridge does not mean a relitively flat tread, but the pay offs are the many rock overlooks we encountered. Our total hike was 9.5 miles with a total gain of 3,400 feet.

When we neared the end of the Hemlock Trail we were a bit confused by the junctions of trails and lack of signage but another hiker not only helped out but suggested a short trail to the Chuckanut Falls which turned out to be an unexpected bonus.

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
