I laced up and followed the crowds up the Mt. Si trail. Yes, the trail was busy, even on a Monday. At the .7 mile mark, I turned right at the Talus Loop sign. The vibe shifted right away! I left everybody else behind. The trail, although narrower, was smoother & not as steep. The forest was cool & quiet, with some nice big trees. Some flowers were out, a few trillium and some nice little yellow ones (buttercups?). The trail was in very good shape, no blowdowns.
Eventually I reached an unmarked junction, where the main trail goes left & a narrower trail goes right. Following the sound of water, I turned right & dropped downhill a short ways to a beautiful cascade of Roaring Creek. What a nice spot! This would make a good destination for a shorter hike. The trail continued on the other side of the creek, but I didn't follow it. From the map, it looks like it may lead to the Mt. Teneriffe road.
Returning to the main trail, I continued on to the talus slope. Of course the view was superb. Just before reaching the view, I passed the only other hiker that I saw on this part of the loop. All too soon, I reached the end of the loop and rejoined "Mt. Si Blvd", which I followed back to the start. It wasn't as busy going down, I guess most of the people were still on top.
This is a great little loop hike for those looking for a relatively easy trip without a lot of company.
