We had a great walk here. However there are a few things to note: From the start, the blue gate is there as described by others who previously posted about this trail, however a lot of the blue paint has chipped off so be aware that the gate isn't completely blue. Additionally, while it does say Washington State Parks on a sign to the left of the blue gate, the gate is labeled with a few postings from a security company. There's also another sign that says WSA or company vehicles only just behind the gate on the right side. One person posted that you should the walk up the road .2 miles to the TH entrance. Actually if you walk around the blue gate back the gravel lane in about .1 mile you'll see the WS Parks road and gate off to the right. Follow that. While you're walking to the beach make sure you stay to your right. You will come to one split; a trail that goes off to the left and that trail goes straight up a hill. Go to the right which goes down the hill. After about another .4-.6 miles you'll come to another split. However prior to that you will encounter trails off to the right. This second split however does seem like yet another trail that goes off to the right and so at first, we continued on the main trail that veers off to the left and kept walking looking for a "true" split. We didn't find it. Instead we walked all the way to the end of the trail which ended at another gate. We then walked about to that split and to our surprise we saw a sign that pointed to the beach and one that pointed back to Diamond Point road. However the signs were positioned well above our heads and we simply didn't even notice the signs when we got to the split the first time. We didn't have time to go to the beach so we went back to the car. All told we walked about 8 miles. It was a good hike.
Note: There was a sign on Diamond Point road well past the gate that warned of cougar sightings to proceed with caution. We didn't encounter any but be on the look out for it.
We like this trail and will be back.
