Why You Should Go Now
Wildflowers blooming

After reading reports of thousands of bitterroot along with other good wildflowers at Snow Mtn Ranch I figured I ought to go check it out since it's only 15 min from my house. I left about noon and ate lunch near the balanced rock, then walked up the Wildflower Trail and the Cowiche Mtn Loop Trail almost to the shallow saddle on top of the ridge. The day was a mix of sun & clouds with some wind and most all the bitterroot was either past(the previous reports were from a week ago) or closed up. I saw lots of plants, but few blossoms. Most of the other flowers were disappointing as well except for the Linear-leaf Daisy & some desert buckwheats. As you would expect, the flowers were better higher up, but it's getting a little late for wildflowers over here. I did, however, have some interesting skies, especially in the east, which made for some nice photos.

Bitterroot

Posted by Bob and Barb at Jun 03, 2012 07:40 PM
I am so sorry you didn't see all the blooming bitterroot we saw on the 25th! It looked as if it would be blooming at least one more week with many new blossoms to open. The last time we did Tronsen Ridge we noticed on our return to the TH that many of the bitterroot that were blooming in the AM had apparently "gone to sleep" when the sun went behind the clouds.
