I did this hike with two friends and a dog on a rainy Monday that we were all lucky enough to have off from work. It was a beautiful hike despite the rain. The step snow fields mentioned in the previous report are still present, but the snow is now soft enough that it is easy to kick steps while walking (or simply step in the tracks left by previous hikers). Spikes or other traction devices probably aren't necessary.
