Why You Should Go Now
Wildflowers blooming
2nd lake of the twins, this is the big lake ~2mi long
What can I say but this was the most all around trail I have been on in a long time. It had everything to offer....wildflowers, river gorge, 2 picturesque lakes, old growth "LARGE" cedars, spectacular views of ranges/peaks, raging creek/river fording, marshes, old FS spawning cabin and boardwalk, rolling trail from death march climb to flat valley strolling. 8 miles round trip and it was worth every step.
1st lake of the twins, smaller one. Perfect spot for lunch. What a view.
Marsh with beautiful backdrop.
A 49' cabin. Looks like people have camped around the property and there is an outhouse to boot.

Hi there, thanks for the report...so how dicey was the creek crossing you mentioned (as also mentioned in Romano's trail guide book). Is the lake easily accessible from any of the camping areas? Thanks!!

Creek crossing

I hate crossing creeks on logs as it is but I did fine. I used a long stick to post hole along for support. As long as you go slow it should be fine. I think there might be a better trail crossing further down stream too if you had a bad time at this one. The log is pretty wide.

As for lake access there really isnt many places. At the cabin there is a small boardwalk but as you can see from my picture of the larger lake the section near the boardwalk is littered with logs.

The only camping area is at the cabin. Looks as if others have had nice campfires there as there is one almost set up with wood already. A nice destination for a backpack trip.

You might actually be able to drop an air mattress into the smaller lake by the shoreline where we ate our lunch, which is really the only spot along the lake for doing that and probably the closest you will get to having a place to access the water.

Hope it helps with the creek crossing. I would say you just go slow and easy. If someone else goes across they can have a stick they can hold out for anyone that may need extra balancing. Its very do able.
