Photo of the trail sign .6 miles at the junction with Baker Lake Trail.
Road to the trailhead was blocked by construction crew unloading some steel from a trailer. The road will be closed for about one month for construction. Once we got to the trailhead everything was normal. We did encounter a work crew from PNTA performing trail maintenance clearing the path of weeds and overgrowth. Nice job guys! Trail was an easy 2.6 mile hike to Sulphide Creek. Lots to see along the awl. No serious water crossings or elevation to deal with. The campground was empty and spacious. It's in the NCNP complex so make sure you check in with the ranger station before you decide to overnight it. Only two campsites there. Great views of the glaciers on Mt Shuksan. Even better views on the way back.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
