I looked at the clock... it was 2:45pm. Too late for most hikes on my list- but Squak has always been lurking in my head. Quickly packed rain gear, and some extra weight (just for fun!), checked the weather radar... looked iffy- but I figured that 80% chance of rain wasn't THAT bad... and headed out at 3:30.
Got to the TH (N1 - Bullitt Access Trail) and headed on my way. About 2/3rds of the way up- downpour. UGH! I pushed through the muddy trail that was overgrown and incredibly wet until I made it to the remains of the cabin. Still raining pretty hard (not quite as bad now) I checked in with a friend to see what the radar was doing now... I had a small gap between storms. I did a really quick search for a geocache up there and ran into some nettles. I am pretty sure most of Issaquah heard my yelling of a bad word- for that I am sorry... but it was unavoidable.
This is the point where I took a few pictures with my phone (only camera on my today that was waterproof) and frolicked off down the trail. The whole way down was full of fog and occasional drips off an overhead branch but it was a much welcome break from the rain. I stopped to talk to a chipmunk on the way down- he didn't respond. Guess he wasn't enjoying the rain either. About 500ft from my car- I started hearing raindrops hitting the leaves around me- I booked it! I am pretty sure I looked like a crazy swamp monster- but I wanted to avoid the next downpour.
50ft...25ft...10ft...*DOWNPOUR* Almost made it... Almost... I threw everything in my car and jumped into my driver's seat. Looking around to make sure that nobody was watching my crazy attempts to get to my car before the rain hit again. I chuckled to myself.
Well played Squak Mountain... Well played...
I'll be back!
