Today six of us biked up the Carbon River Rd. and then hiked in to Ranger Falls & Greenlake, as well as to Chenuis Falls. Biking in to the trailheads certainly shortened our day and eased our efforts! A mountain bike is not necessary (only one of us had one) but we did dismount to walk a couple of rough patches. Both Ranger Falls and Green Lake proved to be far more lovely than we were led to believe from the hiking guide descriptions! Both absolutely delightful. Trail was a steady up-up-up but in good condition. The immense trees in the forest and the extensive deer fern "gardens" added to the delight. And, of course, the power of the Carbon River was evident. Views up and down the valley were very nice even though Mt. Rainier itself it out of sight. Chenuis Falls was a nice little side trip before we headed back down valley.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
