Hike: Mailbox Peak
Region: Snoqualmie Pass -- North Bend Area
Agency: Mt. Baker - Snoqualmie National Forest - Snoqualmie District
Avg Rating: 4.26
Why You Should Go Now
Ripe berries
Be Aware Of
Mud/Rockslide
No water source
Lots of mud in the middle third of the climb; otherwise, the same Sisyphean slog you know and love from this little ascent. Conditions at the top were nearly completely clouded in, with occasional breaks long enough to catch glimpses of I-90 and Si.

We did see a nine-year-old girl at the top who from all appearances hadn't even broken a sweat.

This is the first big conditioning hike of the season, so only a 12# pack. Total time 2:50 up, 1:40 down. Allowing 5 hours round-trip (as the guidebook indicates) in this case doesn't seem overly conservative.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
