A great day for a hike. Trail conditions have much improved since doing this hike 2-weeks ago. The snow is almost completely gone from the trail and the trail itself is in perfect shape.

There was moderate low clouds on the way up but from the summit the view was fantastic. Just a few minutes of mist was all the rain we encountered.

This hike took 2:24 minutes from the trail head and 1:36 back, 4-hours on the minute (ran part of the trail down).

Only two cars were there when we arrived at 10AM. I would suspect this small lot will begin to get quite crowded now that the trail is clear. I would suggest hiking during the week or getting their first thing in the morning on weekends. I've seen the lot nearly full to capacity last summer.

I'm planning to try Silver Lakes off of this trail on Friday with the hopes that some of the warmer weather will have melted any snow on the west side of Mount Townsend.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
