We hiked this trail for the first time with our 3 year old and 5 year old. It was definitely exercise but pleasant and safe so long as small ones know to stay clear of ledges and yield to faster hikers. There were quite a few people on the trail but not too many to make it unpleasant. It has ample parking, considering we found a spot even on a rare gorgeous day at what is obviously a popular swimming area - wish we'd have known to bring a suit!

Rattlesnake Ledge, First time!

Posted by Nehmann at Jul 09, 2012 10:21 PM
This was my first time hiking Rattlesnake Ledge. I was a little leery when I arrived because the trail was temporarily closed due to an injured hiker. It quickly re-opened after about 45 minutes and we began our hike. My husband and I brought our jack russell, and our 4 and 6 year old along for the hike and we were happy that we did. There are parts of the hike that are hard and a little treacherous for the little ones, but we just made sure they were holding our hands in those areas. For our family of four, it took about an hour and 20 minutes to reach the top (1.9 miles) and about an hour to get back down to the bottom(1.9 miles). Such a beautiful view at the very top, which made this hike EXTRA rewarding! A beautiful day for a hike and two worn out children:)
