Wildflowers blooming
Be Aware Of
Blowdowns
Snow on trail
Bugs
At the 4th sketchy snow chute crossing at about 4200' (using good mountaineering boots to kick steps, and an ice axe to probe the snow ahead) I decided to turn back. The snow chutes are melting out fast though, with big gaping holes showing in a couple of them. The trail looks to have been been maintained recently up to about 3800'. After that there is occasional deadfall. In 2-3 more weeks this trail should be fine, especially with the temps we've been getting. I still had beautiful views of Bandera, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, and Kent mountains.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
