Why You Should Go Now
Wildflowers blooming
Ripe berries
smaller falls, just past the bridge overlook of bridal veil falls.
Never hiked this trail before--chose it for a shorter hike on a possibly rainy day. However the rain held off until we were finished at 5 pm. This is a really pretty trail once you get past the turnoff for bridalveil falls, with huge trees and glimpses of mountain views. The trail is in great shape, and the last 2 miles are an excellent substitute for the stairmaster. The lake itself is dramatic with waterfalls pouring off the huge cliffs. We took the scramble trail around to the snow fields, where we met a group with a member who had injured his elbow rather badly after breaking through the snow and landing on rocks. Be careful on the snow!

No biting bugs.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
