Hike: Lake Serene - Bridal Veil Falls
Region: Central Cascades -- Stevens Pass - West
Agency: Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest - Skykomish Ranger District
Trails: Lake Serene (#1068)
Avg Rating: 4.44
Blue skies and moderate temperatures made for a worthwhile hike. For a Monday we encountered more people than expected, but certainly not enough to qualify as crowded. The trail, including the many sets of stairs in the last two miles is in great shape. It's very rocky, which is to be expected from a well-traveled trail. We ran into a very friendly USFS ranger at the lake, to whom we commented it was really nice to see rangers out and about checking on the trails. Back at the parking lot, she was checking vehicles for the Northwest Forest passes. Many people, including us, had the pass but more than a few didn't. The need for the passes is definitely for real.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
