Why You Should Go Now
Wildflowers blooming
Ripe berries
If you haven't been here for a while, you'll find the trail much improved, easy for little kids, overweight people, old folks and probably even doable for those in wheelchairs.
The snow field has yet to reveal the main ice cave, and it can be tempting to wander onto the snow on a hot day, but channels have opened up just below the surface in many places, so please stay off the snow & ice.
Some of the blueberries along the trail are almost ripe, a couple months before their high elevation counterparts. Pretty wildflowers along the trail now too.
Everyone assume the avalanche position!

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
