Cliffs between Hastie Lake and Libbey Beach
I parked at the parking lot at Hastie Lake Road and West Beach Road and went south down to Libbey Beach. This is a hike that should be done only at low tide. At high tide the water can come right up to the cliffs. I've done this hike several times and depending on what the ocean did the day before, you can either be walking on nice sandy beaches or rocks and gravel. Today the beach was mostly easy to walk on with just a few rocky patches. I'm always careful to try to stay twenty to thirty feet away from the cliffs due to the potential for rock fall or mud slides. The cliffs are beautiful but I do tend to be wary of them. Although at other times I've seen people on this walk, I was the only one out today during the 2.3 mile hike.

This hike is part of the Pacific Northwest Trail and is in map sections 08-07 and 08-08.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
