Looking for an adventure today and thought Bean Creek might be it. Other trail reports give a good description of the trail/route so I won't describe the basics of the trail.
The trail itself doesn't have much damage other then that I posted in my pictures.
With the resent heavy rains some of this valley got really blasted. The erosion in some areas is intense- if you like to see what mother nature can do, take this hike.
So much water came down that even on the ridges there was erosion gullies (20 feet from the top).
Now for the trip report- I elected to follow Bean Creek up into the basin, instead of crossing to the switchbacks towards Earl peak.
I just kept going until I was on top of the ridge between the basin and the main trail.
Then I got the brilliant idea that I would just bushwhack over the ridge back to the main trail, bad idea. I was too steep and the scree and dirt were extra loose from the earlier rains. Some of the scree was eroded down to the bare rock. After trying to ski/surf/walk/jump/stumble the scree and dirt for 1000 ft, I made in back into the trees and found a few game trails that lead me back to the safety of the main trail. Well I was an adventure- but I think I'm getting too old for this kind of thing.
