It was a great day and weather for our hike. It was cloudy and cool for the morning hike up to the lake. The trail is in great condition with a few small water crossings that can be easily done without getting your feet wet. We left the trailhead at 8:30 and arrived at the lake at 11:40. We had lunch on lunch rock with only one other hiker and then about 1 hour later we were sharing it with about 40 hikers. The sun came out and we enjoyed the views for about an hour before our trip down. Caution note this is a fairly difficult hike. we observed numerous people who turned around after reaching the 1 mile 1300 foot elevation gain section (alot of stairs) about 1.8 miles in. Thanks to the WTA volunteers for the great work on the trail!!

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
