We did a one-day conditioning hike from the Snow Lakes TH to Lake Viviane, ballparking the mileage at around 20. The trail to Nada is in good shape and stays pretty solid to the dam between upper and lower Snow Lakes. The dam is spilling a decent amount of water, resulting in a roughly ankle high wade across the top of the dam.

Around Upper Snow Lake the trail is interminable, occasionally muddy, and full of roots. We saw three mountain goats in the woods near the lake. At the far end of the lake, the trail finally starts climbing again. It's well-marked with cairns and presents no route-finding challenges. On a picture perfect day like we had, it's hard to imagine a lovelier region. We reached Lake Viviane without incident and found the surrounding snow-free, though the lake is perhaps 20-30% ice covered. The snow appears to start in earnest just above Viviane, but we didn't have time to explore further on this day.

A few bugs at Nada; a ton of mosquitoes at Snow.

We encountered perhaps 3 or 4 deadfall logs across the trail from the TH to Snow Lakes, but I forgot to note their locations.

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
